Brandied Bronze Eyeshadow Palette: Day 7

My last day of experimenting is here! It's been fun trying different looks from this palette and now I know what I can rock when summer comes :). For my last day, I wanted to mix it up, literally. I mixed the first color with the gold to put on my brow bone, gold on the lid, and teal on the crease. I finished it off with my Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Binge and Sephora mascara.

If you'd like to look back at all the looks I've done over the last 6 days, here are the links:

Cold Cream... Just For Grandmas?

I have a confession to make... I use cold cream. That's right, I am 25 and I use cold cream. I don't know why I started using it. I think I ran out of makeup remover and it was on sale and it sounded nice so I tried it out.

I have no complaints; it removes all of my makeup and moisturizes at the same time. I think I am hesitant to tell people because cold cream is associated with older women who swore by the stuff in their youth and today. I'm not sure why cold cream lost popularity but I didn't know until I looked it up that it's been around for 2000 years. True story.

What about you, any beauty products you use that maybe you learned about from your mom or grandmother?

Brandied Bronze Eyeshadow Palette: Day 6

I wanted to go for a slighty darker look today so I decided to use the first color on my brow bone and the bronze on my lids and crease. I lined my upper lid with Sephora Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner in Black (One of the best liners I own!) and the bottom with an Almay bronze eyeliner.

Is Having a Knock-off So Wrong?

The Birkin Bag. An iconic bag with a hefty price. Owned by celebrities and debutantes alike, this bag screams status. Power. Money. And it's pretty :) You would think since Victoria Beckham owns like 100 of them, she would be willing to give them away to those who want them, but that is not the case.

I was perusing through my People Style Watch magazine and happened upon one of the greatest things ever; a bag that looked just like a Birkin!

Obviously, it has it's differences, and you could never fool anyone into thinking it was a Birkin, but if you love the style but don't like waiting 3 years to own one, this could be your best bet. It's only $68 at shopsueyboutique.com.

Is it wrong to own a purse that looks extremely similar to a more expensive, designer handbag? Since we can't afford Birkin or Chanel, does that mean we can't experience what it's like to have a handbag similar to it?

Brandied Bronze Eyeshadow Palette: Day 5

Since today is my day off, and I'm not really going anywhere, I decided to be a little bold with my color choices. I chose the pink for my brow bone, teal for my lid and purple for my crease. I topped it off with Sephora mascara.

P.S - I had to wear uniforms in middle school and our school's colors were teal and purple. You may not think that they would look good together but I've always loved that color combo!

What To Wear in the Boudoir

I thought I remembered some fabulous woman saying something like "If you want to keep the love in your marriage, get rid of the oversized shirts and only wear lingerie or men's dress shirts to bed".

Of course, this isn't always true, but I understand where she is coming from. I am guilty of having too many tshirts left over from high school and college. I wear them because they are comfortable and I tend to get caught up in just being comfortable all the time. Of course my husband would think I'd look great in a paper bag but sometimes it's nice to wear something a little more cute and sexy.

I used to think that buying lingerie would be so expensive but I realized you can get it just about anywhere. My favorite slip is actually from Target, which doesn't usually carry any lingerie. I've also gotten lingerie from Marshalls and TJ Maxx because sometimes they have great deals!

Here are the different types of lingerie available and places you can find them (I'm posting classy ones, but each site has sexier versions)

The babydoll

Victoria's Secret - $35

The Slip/Chemise

Intimo - $19.97

The Gown

Frederick's of Hollywood - $49.00

The Set

Macy's - $52

The Corset

Frederick's of Hollywood - $44.99

The Teddy

Victoria's Secret - $29.50

or, you can just wear your husband's/boyfriend's dress shirt

I'm not saying you have to wear these things to make your man happy. It's all about what you are comfortable and confident in :). Besides, it's always fun to dress up!

Brandied Bronze Eyeshadow Palette: Day 4

For today's look, I thought I would try out more of the gold. I decided to use the first color on my brow bone then use gold on the lids and crease. I topped it off with brown eyeliner and my new favorite mascara, Sephora volumizing mascara.

The Other Boleyn Girl

I just finished reading The Other Boleyn Girl and it's a great book. Ever since I started watching The Tudors, my infatuation with all things Henry VIII has been growing. I saw this movie years ago and enjoyed it but they usually say the book is better than the movie, which in this case is true.

For those of you who don't know, this book is told from the narrative standpoint of Mary Boleyn, who was one of the King's mistresses before her sister, Anne, became queen. It's a great fictional story on actual historical facts and gives you a viewpoint you haven't seen before. It shows what happens when Mary grabs the king's attention, then is pushed aside to make room for her sister, and all of the events that happen after. Mary becomes a sympathetic and loving character because you feel for her, having to deal with her sister's ego once she is queen, and trying to keep love in a court that marries for status and money.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to read historical fiction and is interested in this particular time period. I am now moving on to Anna Karenina, which I've heard is one of the greatest novels of all time. I will agree that it's one of the longest novels I've tried to read so it will probably take me awhile :)

Brandied Bronze Eyeshadow Palette: Day 3

Today, I decided to try my favorite color of the bunch... the teal. I actually had just bought a color quite similar to it (MAC Birds & Berries) but there is something about this teal that makes my heart skip a beat.

I used the first color on the brow bone and lids and used the teal in the creases. I also used Urban Decay's 24/7 eyeliner in Binge to complete the look.

April Showers = May Flowers

We had a big thunderstorm come through last night and when I woke up this morning, my white irises were blooming. You always hear the phrase "April showers bring May flowers" so that tells me that I need to hurry up and get to Lowe's to finish my front and backyard before we get more rain :). Here are some rainy flower pictures to start your Monday off:

Science Sunday: Old Chemicals Still Found in New Foods

You wouldn't think that chemicals banned in the 1970's would still be showing up in the food you eat today, but you're wrong. Scientists have found that small traces of chemicals such as DDT and PCB's, which were banned 30 years ago, are still showing up in the foods we eat now.

These chemicals are known as persistent organic pollutants and are located in the soil, air, and water. Even though they aren't used in large numbers anymore, any traces still left over find their way into dairy, meat, and even vegetables.

They compare the chemicals to sand from the beach; when you get home, you still have sand left over in your things. Even weeks, months, or years after your beach trip, there is always residual sand left over in your shoes. Scientists don't know how much these residual chemicals affect our health but the fact they have been banned for decades is a good start.

They found during a study that all different types of foods tested contained trace pesticides, with more fatty foods containing larger amounts. Farmed fish also had higher levels of pesticides due to fishmeal that is fed to them being contaminated.

Because of these findings, scientists are asking the government to step up food testing for trace chemicals and determine new levels of acceptability since old levels may be outdated or unsafe.

The 6th Photo Game

The wonderful Londen over at Sixty Fifth Avenue tagged me to participate in the 6th photo game. I must refer back to when I first started blogging, which was almost a year ago, and find the 6th photo (that I actually took, not stole, hehe). I post it and explain what it's about, so here goes:

I took this picture to show what I was doing one Saturday evening, which was drinking beer out of my Gail Pittman FSU mug and watching "Roman Holiday", which I love! I did comment that I felt wrong drinking beer instead of wine or champagne when watching someone as classy as Audrey Hepburn but that's all I had :)

Brandied Bronze Eyeshadow Palette: Day 2

It is my second day trying looks from my new Clinique palette and I decided to use the 3 shadow approach. I used the first color on my brow bone, the gold on my lid. and the brown on my crease. I love that all the colors work well together!

What do you think of this color combination?

Garage Sale Steals

Today is one of our neighborhood's bi-annual community yard sales and one of my favorite days of the year. As you may recall, I got lucky last October and got some great finds.

This year, I got even luckier. I've been looking for a desk to put my new sewing machine on. I literally walked down my street and found this beauty for $2!

It's made out of wood laminate so I'm not sure how easy it is to paint but for a sewing machine desk, it will do great!

I also got lucky looking for a fertilizer spreader (so we can try to resuscitate our grass) and found this nice one for $5.

Now I don't have to borrow my grandfather's anymore!

Since money is tight in our household, we decided to end it there and enjoy our finds. I can't wait to get the desk upstairs and start making pillows on it!

Brandied Bronze Eyeshadow Palette: Day 1

I received my eyeshadow palette yesterday and I'm in love! The colors are truly amazing and are so shiny and pigmented. I decided I am going to wear colors from the palette for the next week.

Day 1: I decided to wear the light pink on my brow bone and the purple on my lid and crease. I am also wearing Milani Infinite liquid liner in Endless, which is a bright purple.

These colors go really well together, as I think all the colors do, and I love the sheen them. I can't wait to see color combo I come up with tomorrow :)

(Sorry for the crappy Iphone pics, I will try to take better pictures tomorrow)

My Summer Wardrobe Addition

Let's face it... Florida skipped right over spring and went straight into summer. The only thing missing is rainstorms every day.

I happened to pop into Forever 21 last week to do a little browsing. I really went in just to buy some sunglasses but it never stops there, does it?

Sunglasses - $5.99

Linen pants - $22.80

Striped tunic - $10.80

Considering how poor I am right now, I think these inexpensive items are the boost my wardrobe needs for the season :)

Orly Sweet Collection

I'm a little behind on discovering this collection but I was browsing around my local CVS when these colors caught my eye:

From left: Pixy Stix, Lollipop, Lemonade, Gumdrop, Cotton Candy, Snowcone

I wanted to buy them all but I ended up getting Gumdrop, which I am wearing today:

It looks a lot bluer in the picture but it's closer to a seafoam green color. Whatever it is, it's fabulous and I love it! I'd really like to also get the Snowcone and Lollipop colors sometime.

This is my first experience with Orly nail polishes and so far, I'm impressed. The consistency is thicker than I'm used to but it was relatively easy to apply and seems like it will last awhile. If you haven't tried this brand or this collection, this spring is a great time to give it a shot :)

On Earth Day, You Should...

  • Take any plastic bags you own to a local grocery store for recycling and pick up some fabric shopping bags while you're there.
  • Go to the movies and see "Oceans"
  • Plant a flower or tree in your yard
  • Change out one lightbulb in your house with a energy-efficient CFL lightbulb
  • Carpool to work today
  • Pick up any trash you might see on a sidewalk or where you walk
  • Read "The World Without Us", which gives you a gripping story of how nature can take over and destroy man-made structures when we're not there to stop it
  • Go to the zoo
  • Use natural cleaning products in your home
  • Go to the aquarium
  • Watch Discovery channel tonight and marvel at what exists in our world
  • Try not to use any styrofoam
  • Volunteer at a local animal shelter or road cleanup
  • Remember that everything you do has an effect on our planet, so try to take care of it as best you can :)

How Have You Been?

I apologize again for being so busy and out of the loop. Between the weddings and getting exiled in another building at work to cut tissue all day, I feel like I have been missing out on so much! I consider all of you wonderful followers my friends, and when I don't communicate with friends in awhile, I go nuts!

Some of my blog friends must have gotten bored with me because I lost 4 followers in my absence. Oh well, c'est la vie!

So, dear friends, I'd like to ask you; How have you been? Anything exciting or special happen to you in the past week? Did you write a particular post that I should really read? If so, include the link in your comment and I will be happy to come by and visit :)

I'd love to hear anything you want to say!
